This is excellent. Never in my life did I think a government agency would do lean to this extent. Thanks for sharing this.

Was the "slashing headcount" guy volunteering? Bravo to those private sector companies who have realized that they can either "pay it forward" for effectiveness, or continue to pay backward higher taxes for ineffectiveness out of their government.

First - Thank goodness for the Executive Order.

Second - I've always heard legislating is like sausage making - you may (or may not)like the end product - but you don't want to know what goes into it.

Lastly - thanks for making my day at Kevin's expense :-)

The inability of agencies to use their existing resources and the lack of ability to obtain new resources for kaizen, etc., as well as reliance on pro-bono private sector services for Lean training will signal to Washington state employees and others that Lean is not really that important. What's gets resourced is important, was does not get resources isn't. So Lean will likely be viewed as nice to do, and some good things will surely get done, but it is not a must-do.

The approach being taken thus far will result in varying levels of buy-in and teamwork, which normally slows down improvement activities and does not set the stage for comprehensive success; only isolated success.

Kudos, however, for not equating Lean management with layoffs. That is well done!

Good post, but two slight corrections: The bill is HB 2173, and the sponsor is Rep. Luis Moscoso (D). Rep. Mark Miloscia (D) is a cosponsor.

The same valid points could have been made without all the insults and name calling. I would have been more likely to forward this to others if the tone weren't so churlish.

That is where we will have to agree to disagree. With states nearly bankrupt, the economy in ruins and millions needlessly unemployed I think the politicians need to be provoked and badgered into taking action. Apparently you think there is still room for polite, intellectual discusson. As far as I'm concerned the politicians have had twenty years of gentlemanly discourse and no longer merit the benefit of the doubt.
