I've priced books for the Expresso Machine in Austin, Texas, and the cost is significantly greater than the retail price of the paperback.

I'll pass on e-books except for technical books. You give up a lot of rights, too (like easy lending to anyone, not just Kindle owners, and resale rights).

Besides, the cost advantages aren't being passed on. Last month, I bought a lot of technical books from Amazon, new & used, and in all cases the physical books were the same or cheaper than the Kindle editions. Half of the books came with a voucher for a free PDF.

The serendipity factor is also much higher in bookstores with books, especially used bookstores.
