"plan to replace the entire Astros roster with the Chinese national team."

What the heck -- if you're going to be in last place, there's no point in spending money to do it. Besides, unlike a lot of American players, the Chinese players might actually have the sense that becoming better ball players might have a lot more to do with improving their skills through practice than in having equipment endorsement contracts, hip hop recording contracts, television appearances, night clubs, exotic cars, performance enhancing drugs, pop star girlfriends, Saturday Night Live guest hosting duties, etc.

This philosophy is already in use, to some extent, with the Florida Marlins. They may not bring over the Chinese National team, but they do constantly trade away higher priced players for lower cost prospects.

Maybe this is something you'd like to write about. I don't think I have the heart.

We had a little fun with that at work (really enjoyed it) and came up with this follow-up scenario to your blog:
-Following another sub-par season and low attendance the U.S. government took over the team and its advisors required the following changes
-Cut back the playing staff to only 6 core players. 9 on the field at the same time is wasteful and is a bloated, wasteful legacy of a bygone era
-Mandated that all hitters must attain a .400 batting average by 2010 to prove their viability. Incentives would be provided for each single and bunt while penalties would be assessed for "swining for the fences"
and finally, although continuing to proclaim they don't want to be in the business of running a baseball team, the Government mandated the elimination of beer and hot dogs in the stadium, replacing them with the alternative of tossed salads and bottled water.
