I understand your reluctance to work in enterprises that produce products you feel fall into an ethical grey area. I haven't ever experienced that ambiguous conflict, I just say no; it's never been a difficult decision for me. I did want to bring up one issue tho, a bit off topic, that not everyone who uses a radar detector does it with the intention of breaking the law.

I used one when I drove a taxi. When you're driving 12 hours a day (most of it in town and through neighborhoods), you acclimatize to speed. It's a fact. You may feel you're only doing 20 mph but you're doing 45. So, I drove with mine set to the highest level of sensitivity, meaning even some garage doors and all automatic doors would set it off. The beep serves as an auditory cue to constantly monitor your speed and drive safely. The radar detector was an indispensable safety tool. Now that I don't drive a cab, I don't use a radar detector either.

Iow, I realize the vast majority of purchasers use these for the purpose for which they are intended but not everyone does. And specifically, a class of driver you'd most expect would, do not. Lots of cab drivers use radar detectors as a safety tool. Coming full circle, I would agree that it would be self serving for one to discount their ethical discomfort based on the "off label" use of a minority segment of the market.

Sen. Bill Bradley is on this board too!!
